<br />
Built this from the old Italeri 1/72 scale kit. Not a bad kit but needs modernising. The wheels come in one piece and the track though well moulded on the outside has no inner guide teeth. So I replaced the wheels and tracks with resin aftermarket products from <a href="http://www.model-miniature.com/" target="_blank">Model Miniature</a>. These worked out nicely. But there was one problem.<br />
<br />
The wheels from Model Miniature sat too far back on the connection tab. A quick look at the supplied wheels and the problem was solved. The Italeri wheels have an attached lug which 'pushes' them forward. So about thirty minutes, after a bit of cussin' and swearing, I had removed the excess from the dozen Italeri wheels with a very fine razor saw. Then used the off cut like a washer to bring the resin wheel forward.<br />

The wheels now lined up with the resin track guide teeth. First time I had used resin tracks. Was not too horrible an experience. Glued three lengths together. Placed said lengths on bottom of wheels so they were roughly equal overhang front and back. Then used hairdryer to heat resin and bend round idler and drive wheel. The tracks did not meet in the middle but since I was using track guards this would be hidden on the finished model and not a problem.<br />
<br />
Added a few extra features to the kit. The aerials are from <a href="http://rbmodel.com/index.php?action=products&cat=news" target="_blank">RB Model</a>. The tow cable is one I bought for Russian tanks from <a href="http://www.eurekaxxl.com/" target="_blank">Eureka xxl</a>. You can pick these items from UK distributors should you wish too.<br />

The photo etch grill in the turret bustle is from <a href="http://www.scalelink.co.uk/" target="_blank">Scalelink</a>. I used 1mm diamond grid pattern. I used lead foil from them to represent the canvas with the platoon number displayed. I also cut small pieces of styrene channel to put around the turret bustle to use as brackets to hold the tow cable.<br />
<br />
The extra track links on the turret are pieces of the original track but added guide teeth to both and the bolts to hold them in place.<br />

First time I've really added some scratch built parts to a kit and despite being fiddly at times was actually quite fun. The green you can see is filler.<br />
<br />
IDF tank colours seem to have as much discussion as German WW2 tank colours. In the end I used Vallejo Model Air Sinai Grey '82. The name helped! The weathered away.<br />

Lebanon 1982 So this is the new project I have embarked upon. The First Lebanon War or Operation Peace for Galilee.<br />

Not going to go into the ways and wherefores yet. But first up is an Israeli Infantry/Paratrooper Squad in 20mm of course.<br />

Kept the colour scheme simple, which made them very enjoyable to paint.<br />
<br />
I decided to give them brown boots which I believe was the trademark of IDF paratroop units. I will probably be using the term 'I believe' alot throughout the following posts concerning the IDF and opponents. I'm learning as I go along. One of the enjoyable aspects of the hobby.<br />

<br />
Each is about 20cm square. I used the old favourite of the doormat. Gave the top half a rough spray of Vallejo Air Light Camo Green. The row of crops are from Mininatur/Silfor. The goats come from the Pegasus 1/72 scale Farm Set.<br />
<br />
The main ground covering is ready mixed filler but at the edges I mixed filler with PVA and that set rock hard. So should protect the edges from any hard knocks.<br />

With a T54 to give an idea of scale. The T54 is from a previous post but slightly modified.<br />

That's it for now more to follow soon... Put a shout out for volunteers to paint some figures for his forthcoming 'Dragon Rampant' rules. I stepped upto the plate and duly two fantasy human types landed on the doorstep via Royal Mail. So I set to work..<br />
<br />
first up a Ranger/Paladin type<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Spent a couple of days painting these two since there was a deadline.<br />
<br />
Well today my complimentary copy of 'Dragon Rampant' arrived on the doormat.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://ospreypublishing.com/media/catalog/product/cache/2/image/958def80b7ce809d46640f86aa46835c/9/7/9781472815712_4_2_10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://ospreypublishing.com/media/catalog/product/cache/2/image/958def80b7ce809d46640f86aa46835c/9/7/9781472815712_4_2_10.jpg" width="237" /></a></div>
<br />
My figures are in the book on Page 9. Just so you get it <span style="color: red;">PAGE 9</span>. I'm quite chuffed. Never had any of my work in print before. Dan has done the bases, what I good job too.<br />
<br />
Now I have an excuse to buy the fantasy figures from Hasslefree and Heresy miniatures I have had my eye on for a long time!<br />
<br />
Also included in the package from Osprey was a complimentary copy of 'En garde!'<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51Mj-ms4ydL._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51Mj-ms4ydL._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg" height="320" width="237" /></a></div>
<br />
Which was very nice of them. Now I must admit the swashbuckler thing is not really my thing. But the rules do cover two periods which have caught my eye before, 'The Border Reivers' and 'The Conquistadors'. So we shall see. They also have a small section at the back for magic if you want to bring in Solomon Kane type characters. Which could be interesting.<br />
<br />
That's it for now, enough of blowing my own trumpet, more to follow...<br />
<br />
<br />

To kickstart my return to the blogging circuit I'll start by posting up some things I've done recently.<br />
<br />
First up D9 bulldozer from <a href="http://sandsmodelsshop.com/">SandSmodels</a> in 20mm scale. It's not in the store yet. But I saw it on their Facebook page <a href="https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=489547554561090&id=204783626370819" target="_blank">here</a>. So when I placed an order for another item, asked Shaun about it and he kindly sent me out a model.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/w549/Goosegog/Modern/WP_20160101_15_14_56_Pro_zpstcaut3qf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/w549/Goosegog/Modern/WP_20160101_15_14_56_Pro_zpstcaut3qf.jpg" height="225" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've added cables for the hydraulics, grab handles, fire extinguishers, amber warning beacon and the aircon/heater unit for the cab. Built up some areas with plastic card. Added some card to the base of the blade to bulk it out more and around the cab deck. Then it was a case of weathering it....heavily.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/w549/Goosegog/Modern/04a0bda3-eed1-4f59-bcb8-1df9aeb1034b_zpsjswwj1f7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/w549/Goosegog/Modern/04a0bda3-eed1-4f59-bcb8-1df9aeb1034b_zpsjswwj1f7.jpg" height="282" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/w549/Goosegog/Modern/WP_20160101_15_15_27_Pro_zpsf4wsqsoy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/w549/Goosegog/Modern/WP_20160101_15_15_27_Pro_zpsf4wsqsoy.jpg" height="225" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've painted it to represent a vehicle used by US forces. I could not figure how to make the grill which sits over the blade or to add the headlamps which sit above the two blade arms. Fortunately I did find a photo on the net, of two US Army D9's parked side by side and one was missing the grill above the blade.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/w549/Goosegog/Modern/WP_20160101_15_15_38_Pro_zpsk1zb7lmy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/w549/Goosegog/Modern/WP_20160101_15_15_38_Pro_zpsk1zb7lmy.jpg" height="223" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Overall I'm pleased with the result. Had a bit of a 'mare with the painting though. Decided to try out MIG Ammo Scratches fluid in place of my normal hairspray. I learnt to my cost that you can't leave the chipping fluid overnight to dry like hairspray. So I ended up having to reapply a base coat. This means if you look closely some of the detail is covered a little to heavy in paint. Live and learn! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I didn't weather it heavy to hide these mistakes but to give it a real work horse look. Honest!:)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Anyway that's enough for now more to follow...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

That post can be found <a href="http://thereppledeppleclubhouse.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/lav-25.html" target="_blank">here</a>.<br /><br />Now if you read yesterday's post (if not go and read it <span style="color: red;">now</span> :)), clearly visible in photo in the background is the very same LAV. For the past few days I've been 'enhancing' the model. I was just not entirely happy with it, and decided it needed further weathering.<br /><br />So this is what it looked like originally...<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgihgN-gF5oGfX1Eat_jozlUB_hJhaiiLAomjMagPawq_no3srAr4E4LeVEFKFXbfy6rHSFdzhz1Wcj4-kUGDPG4FpI22dFQ4NeAmKc5XQwF64gcNJHCUxZ2cUoZx8kEKpZ8KKbWR-o98mi/w1279-h955-no/" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgihgN-gF5oGfX1Eat_jozlUB_hJhaiiLAomjMagPawq_no3srAr4E4LeVEFKFXbfy6rHSFdzhz1Wcj4-kUGDPG4FpI22dFQ4NeAmKc5XQwF64gcNJHCUxZ2cUoZx8kEKpZ8KKbWR-o98mi/w1279-h955-no/" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTaPnEv7kAyGA_jQ_8DoMWBpY8mH3G7_56OyKD86OiJ0GGqEs9w7XqSxdcF0tG0QN0DS8GICkItLNFs5ok8k9it3JkSyIRzKRqvVSDDHPqNhyphenhyphenS-7GN6Kha2MXzEf59ANFws7_FtSJm7q_8/w1279-h955-no/" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTaPnEv7kAyGA_jQ_8DoMWBpY8mH3G7_56OyKD86OiJ0GGqEs9w7XqSxdcF0tG0QN0DS8GICkItLNFs5ok8k9it3JkSyIRzKRqvVSDDHPqNhyphenhyphenS-7GN6Kha2MXzEf59ANFws7_FtSJm7q_8/w1279-h955-no/" width="400" /></a></div><br />Now this is the updated version...<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/PZTQvE0Ti5OCc6p0ZIkaV4s0CrwwX5f3BsytbpIkA5w=w1158-h865-no" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/PZTQvE0Ti5OCc6p0ZIkaV4s0CrwwX5f3BsytbpIkA5w=w1158-h865-no" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/qA1mwe2TuK1fBe4lWRFV-aUT-VBXYoGXdsFnvChQfOA=w1051-h865-no" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="328" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/qA1mwe2TuK1fBe4lWRFV-aUT-VBXYoGXdsFnvChQfOA=w1051-h865-no" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/NtQcf7Ib3Gp9LOEU4Ld3FhMScUrGORL4MQNeuxl67kE=w741-h865-no" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/NtQcf7Ib3Gp9LOEU4Ld3FhMScUrGORL4MQNeuxl67kE=w741-h865-no" width="342" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/RtsZPBIoovtNTfwmmNDrDVt73P53iI9HmOzSP_yEdjU=w1158-h865-no" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/RtsZPBIoovtNTfwmmNDrDVt73P53iI9HmOzSP_yEdjU=w1158-h865-no" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/fxeLyr7PZuBPPANhXzfkulOTs1K51IBJ4_hC2Weuozw=w1158-h865-no" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/fxeLyr7PZuBPPANhXzfkulOTs1K51IBJ4_hC2Weuozw=w1158-h865-no" width="400" /></a></div><br />I've added more dust and paint scratches primarily. Another building for my Modern games, but with a slight twist.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/snqJ66FIcZ2ib6smvOPIcvGD0SEXrJvPEEhcERKwY60=w1158-h865-no" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/snqJ66FIcZ2ib6smvOPIcvGD0SEXrJvPEEhcERKwY60=w1158-h865-no" width="400" /></a></div><br />Been collecting the bits and pieces to make this scene for a while. The building accoutrement's and paraphernalia come from 1/72 wargaming and OO scale railway sources. The building itself is 2mm MDF for the floors. The ground floor mounted on 3mm cork tile. The walls are 3mm cork sandwiched between embossed plasticard. The concrete uprights are 8mm square pine dowel cut to 80mm lengths and are covered in base render. 0.5mm copper wire used to represent the steel reinforcing bars.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DnAM9LhMd3RewF7SexkspM77MpBBViHTABSHoW86OU=w1158-h865-no" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DnAM9LhMd3RewF7SexkspM77MpBBViHTABSHoW86OU=w1158-h865-no" width="400" /></a></div><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/57EZsnB2Rr4DiHOstOZ_02zCEEuXZ89Q8ZUOjXPr0R4=w1158-h865-no" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/57EZsnB2Rr4DiHOstOZ_02zCEEuXZ89Q8ZUOjXPr0R4=w1158-h865-no" width="400" /></a></div><br />To make up for the lack of walls building materials have been 'strategically' placed to provide cover.<br /><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/NlZz0jN6pH8NnCiJ-F_q05U6ztFhGWujkCGjPuYoBP8=w1158-h865-no" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/NlZz0jN6pH8NnCiJ-F_q05U6ztFhGWujkCGjPuYoBP8=w1158-h865-no" width="400" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>The first floor can be removed to allow access to the ground floor. The ladder being used in lieu of a proper staircase is glued in place to the first floor, but will require careful handling. Had originally planned to base them individually on 1p coins like everything else. This way they should stand out in the crowd.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/CHlede_cRcqIb30jNGtvZbwQNNDNZk58_9g8EQ-qgjk=w1127-h956-no" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="338" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/CHlede_cRcqIb30jNGtvZbwQNNDNZk58_9g8EQ-qgjk=w1127-h956-no" width="400" /></a></div><br />They are on a 40mm MDF circular base (from Warbases of course), with another cut in half and glued on top. Used green stuff to cover the pavement area and then carved in the individual slabs. Sculpture is not my strong point (though I can do a mean sandbag!), so put other pieces of detritus on top to hide any mistakes and draw attention away from wonky lines and different widths and depths between the paving slabs.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/VB-ducZLe__myXa1FBhAkwg97omYEQNdVJvBJBBJHEc=w876-h955-no" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/VB-ducZLe__myXa1FBhAkwg97omYEQNdVJvBJBBJHEc=w876-h955-no" width="366" /></a></div><br />Overall though I'm happy with the finished product. The figures are from Elhiem. The reporter appears to rocking back on his heels in the close up photos. I did not really notice it when pinning the figure to the base. I also meant to pin the cameraman so he was 'filming' slightly more to the right of the reporter to offset the difference in height and give an illusion he was filming events behind his colleague, I only realised my error after the glue had dried. Oh well nevermind, life goes on.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/qbcOTcjoK5lfdONiwenIqiuAtTszw8Z5Fy5Xq_2mPBA=w1364-h955-no" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="280" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/qbcOTcjoK5lfdONiwenIqiuAtTszw8Z5Fy5Xq_2mPBA=w1364-h955-no" width="400" /></a></div><br />That's it for now more to follow..... <br /><br /></div>MarkGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10931863014281720994noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3307332023480321991.post-49035736308022416202015-07-17T22:32:00.000+01:002016-01-07T15:13:56.855+00:00Back on the Road Again....<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">Mojo back....Check<br />Painting time back....Check<br />Plenty to paint....Check<br />Know where to start....Check<br />Stop faffing and get on with it.....Check<br /><br />Back to the 20mm Moderns at the moment. Since Gaia resembles a well known comic and TV character (and a personal favourite of mine in both genres), decided that the extra expense on the resin version was worth it.<br /><br />Next up Lisa, just stay away from that hammer!<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zELfr-p9qBQ/VWzc1YNUvBI/AAAAAAAADNg/uodPY1MufCs/w348-h413-no/2015%2B-%2B2" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zELfr-p9qBQ/VWzc1YNUvBI/AAAAAAAADNg/uodPY1MufCs/w348-h413-no/2015%2B-%2B2" width="269" /></a></div><br />Both figures are from <a href="http://www.hfminis.co.uk/" target="_blank">Hasslefree</a>, where else could they be from?<br /><br />The resin toppers are from <a href="http://fenrisgames.com/shop" target="_blank">Fenris</a>.<br /><br />Smile for the camera girl's.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PkyP8vjQF4w/VWzfoburlUI/AAAAAAAADOQ/jfkpb5uT2sM/w483-h336-no/2015%2B-%2B5" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="222" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PkyP8vjQF4w/VWzfoburlUI/AAAAAAAADOQ/jfkpb5uT2sM/w483-h336-no/2015%2B-%2B5" width="320" /></a></div><br />Currently playing a Zombie fun filled campaign with some good buddies. I have quite a collection of Viking, Saxon, Arthurian miniatures plus books etc. I must admit mostly unpainted. But recently I have been picking up the odd figure and painting it for fun, with every intention of returning full time to the period.<br><br>So earlier in the year I discovered that Colin Patten the man behind the original 'Gripping Beast Miniatures' (with his brother Duncan), before it was took over by Andy and Darren and became the monster we all love, had launched a new company called <a href="http://saxonminiatures.com/" target="_blank">Saxon Miniatures</a>. I took a look and the figures are as per usual, in my opinion, excellent. So I ordered the Warlords Deal, and why not! <br><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z174/Dagenhameast/vik_zpse8793784.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z174/Dagenhameast/vik_zpse8793784.jpg" height="133" width="400"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://saxonminiatures.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/saxon-showcase.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://saxonminiatures.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/saxon-showcase.jpg" height="132" width="400"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">(Photos from Saxon Miniatures)</div><br>About a month had gone by and nothing had turned up, but the site does say it could take that long for delivery so I was not concerned. But then I had e-mail from Colin explaining there was a delay with casting and did I want to wait or have a refund. I chose to wait, no contest really. Colin did say he would reward my patience due to the delay.<br><br>The figures arrived and are lovely and are sitting in the painting queue at the moment, I'm afraid. I was happy and thought no more about it. Then on Friday a 'Jiffy' envelope arrived and inside was a very pleasant surprise. <br><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/Njlcpj4_n8MysIPYBLad80iLHfsPfQhil1jOUerAWAA=w640-h478-no" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/Njlcpj4_n8MysIPYBLad80iLHfsPfQhil1jOUerAWAA=w640-h478-no" width="400"></a></div><br>These are from the new Arthurian Knights range. Very nice too! These will probably get painted first. I've being in the process of building an Arthurian army since the WAB days. So a project I probably started 10 years ago will be completed or at least part way!<br><br>So a big thank you to Colin. I'm sure you like me have other stories of the good service received from the many companies which support and provide for our hobby. But this time I decided to mention this kind gesture.<br><br>Here are a few Vikings I painted recently just to prove I have been painting Dark Age figures. From Gripping Beast and if I'm not mistaken sculpted by Mr Patten!<br><br><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KDBjekuX6xc/VWGmHlwda4I/AAAAAAAADHs/wM0Y0iQD1iI/w1158-h865-no/2015%2B-%2B2" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KDBjekuX6xc/VWGmHlwda4I/AAAAAAAADHs/wM0Y0iQD1iI/w1158-h865-no/2015%2B-%2B2" width="400"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So there you have a rare glimpse into the clutter of my painting desk. So this week it was my turn to play host. The perfect opportunity to play my brand new Star Wars Armada.<br><br>Unfortunately one of our little group couldn't make it. So I was left to entertain the <a href="http://thesecretwargamer.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">The Secret Wargamer</a> himself. Now despite being a fine fellow; he is ex-merchant navy and likes to regale all who will listen with stories of <i>'During the Cold War' . </i><br><i><br></i>Since he used to command a tramp steamer between Skegness and Ostend, I knew Armada would be right up is alley. Being an ex-nautical man he would insist on referring to the port and starboard etc etc. So I concocted a cunning plan to use psychological warfare by referring to the left and right side of my starboats. I could see the steam rising in my opponent but as will be seen it was to no avail.<br><br>The seen is set....<br><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ykv0qHfSdKk/VSgoyJJbJzI/AAAAAAAADBU/wA3sVvF5TIc/w1158-h865-no/2015%2B-%2B2" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ykv0qHfSdKk/VSgoyJJbJzI/AAAAAAAADBU/wA3sVvF5TIc/w1158-h865-no/2015%2B-%2B2" height="298" width="400"></a></div><br>The Rebel fleet. Six turns is the recommend game length but of course you can ignore that and just keep playing. <br><br>So overall thoughts? An excellent game. It is X-Wings big brother. The potential for big fleet battles, with multiple players and campaign games beckons.<br><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Wave-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Wave-2.jpg" height="166" width="400"></a></div><br><br>If you like Star Wars and like X-Wing or even like naval games buy this.<br><br>That's it for now more to follow....... </div>MarkGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10931863014281720994noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3307332023480321991.post-27998056641918044982015-03-27T10:30:00.000+00:002016-01-07T15:13:56.931+00:00At last it's here.....<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">So rather large package arrived this morning (stop what ever you're thinking!)...inside.....Wow!!!!<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OB5eFDMG2c0/VRUqnRHx2GI/AAAAAAAAC4Q/6kX9VotUc5E/w1158-h865-no/2015%2B-%2B1" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OB5eFDMG2c0/VRUqnRHx2GI/AAAAAAAAC4Q/6kX9VotUc5E/w1158-h865-no/2015%2B-%2B1" height="239" width="320" /></a></div><br />Gosh, out of the box and onto the table....<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nR9-YrVzIjE/VRUqnXjpM4I/AAAAAAAAC4Y/vgIjifsy85A/w1158-h865-no/2015%2B-%2B2" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nR9-YrVzIjE/VRUqnXjpM4I/AAAAAAAAC4Y/vgIjifsy85A/w1158-h865-no/2015%2B-%2B2" height="239" width="320" /></a></div><br /><br />The lid is off......<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KUw3Cn1GFxs/VRUqnSC1rcI/AAAAAAAAC4g/c-ZSmmZcovA/w1158-h865-no/2015%2B-%2B3" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KUw3Cn1GFxs/VRUqnSC1rcI/AAAAAAAAC4g/c-ZSmmZcovA/w1158-h865-no/2015%2B-%2B3" height="239" width="320" /></a></div><br />A cheeky shot of the contents.....<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6sSim76kY1w/VRUqnf9CxQI/AAAAAAAAC4o/Qn0Ts5Pg0O8/w1158-h865-no/2015%2B-%2B4" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6sSim76kY1w/VRUqnf9CxQI/AAAAAAAAC4o/Qn0Ts5Pg0O8/w1158-h865-no/2015%2B-%2B4" height="239" width="320" /></a></div><br />Now the big fella, from top down and the rear.....(is that a long low whistle I hear?)<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U-EEP5195KU/VRUqnVpr8LI/AAAAAAAAC4w/qg2MDTTlvew/w1158-h865-no/2015%2B-%2B5" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U-EEP5195KU/VRUqnVpr8LI/AAAAAAAAC4w/qg2MDTTlvew/w1158-h865-no/2015%2B-%2B5" height="239" width="320" /></a></div> Steady boys....<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WZeCrobAI5E/VRUqnTW9xwI/AAAAAAAAC44/NDoP6NebTds/w1158-h865-no/2015%2B-%2B6" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WZeCrobAI5E/VRUqnTW9xwI/AAAAAAAAC44/NDoP6NebTds/w1158-h865-no/2015%2B-%2B6" height="239" width="320" /></a></div><br />That's all for now folks.<br /><br />I think you get the message; I'm quite excited about this game. Plus I'm painting enough camo on 20mm figures. The visor had to be green. This was a nod to Gerry Anderson's UFO series. Those of a certain age will recall that the aliens had green visors on their space helmets (the helmet contained green fluid?). This hid the face, which I always found slightly sinister at the time (though I would have been six or seven when I first watched it!).<br /><br />The plan is to add more Survivors at a steady pace and of course Zombies. I have not gone to town on them, really just painted them as a bit of fun to use in the game. The painting is a bit heavy handed and I was not too over zealous when cleaning them up either. The bases will be left black.<br /><br />Actually have not played the game yet, had a quick read of the rules but reviews are very favourable so looking forward to jumping in blasting away at the minions of the Empire or the rebel scum!<br /><br />Speaking of minions. Partly to save time and partly because I thought I would leave them in the pure white armour so associated with the original, first and best trilogy (unless you were stationed on Tatooine!). In fact I've just used Foundry's Artic Grey triad using the base greys to give shadow and contrast.<br /><br />I will do more of these on and off. I've kept them simple, primarily since FoF tends to be urban based. So added a crossroads, T-junction and another straight but with the road passing over a culvert. The culvert was to break up the flatness of the boards and add an interesting feature. <br /><br />All are mounted an 15 MDF base with a surround of 25mm MDF off cut and Styrofoam inner of 600x600x25mm. Had to cut the Styrofoam to fit the frame so it is more 570x600x25mm. The roads are made from 1mm MDF and the culvert pipes are made from the hollow metal circle tubing. The type used to provide a hanging rail in certain wardrobes. Cut off about four 1.5" lengths and sprayed black. Dug a hole into the side of the banks and pushed in the tube. The water is made from Vallejo Still Water mixed with Vallejo Model Air Light Brown to give a mucky appearance. <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VUHD7pLtpio/VLhVx6xCCRI/AAAAAAAACWM/crpPoH_h8UY/s865-no/2015%2B-%2B2" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VUHD7pLtpio/VLhVx6xCCRI/AAAAAAAACWM/crpPoH_h8UY/s865-no/2015%2B-%2B2" height="320" width="320" /></a></div> <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DUP_yiFt620/VLhVx9v5MqI/AAAAAAAACX0/w3t0tFEe93U/w1158-h865-no/2015%2B-%2B7" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DUP_yiFt620/VLhVx9v5MqI/AAAAAAAACX0/w3t0tFEe93U/w1158-h865-no/2015%2B-%2B7" height="239" width="320" /></a></div><br />I've placed what terrain I have at the moment to give <i>me</i> an idea of what they look like and what needs to added. The rubbish inside is home made from off cuts of balsa wood and wire spears. The chair is from Faller and is OOscale so comes out a little small. But one of the legs have been cut off and with a bit of weathering it looks okay. The stool with the dog is also from Faller but that looks more in scale than the chair. All non-animal pieces have been weathered.<br /><br />The idea behind these was to make the telegraph pole bases more interesting. To add a bit of character to the gaming board and where appropriate provide some cover. The Ratio pack comes with two sprues of eight poles. The next batch will be done similar but I may just base a few with foliage around the base, so nothing to fancy or time consuming. The only thing I would do different is place some of poles centrally on the bases. I got a bit drill happy when placing the holes and it was only after the poles had been placed did I realise I should have varied the positions. <br /><br />Next up is a break from terrain. I have another USMC fireteam to complete, some more 1/285th FV432's and a plastic kit to build which I'm hoping will turn out well.<br /><br />That's it for now more to follow........soon-ish..... </div>MarkGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10931863014281720994noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3307332023480321991.post-39556801327321678972014-11-11T15:27:00.000+00:002016-01-07T15:13:57.049+00:00Shadow Army<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div><br /></div><div>Lashkar al-Zil or Shadow Army<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/6rFG9EUkiZtf9cHS2jBeH0W1vXng6MdKK2tdibxVr40=w1538-h865-no" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="358" src="//4.bp.blogspot.com/6rFG9EUkiZtf9cHS2jBeH0W1vXng6MdKK2tdibxVr40=w1538-h865-no" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/yQdPc2i_-pzNczDBZ8sVVXrJaNB9ov-cK7IzpJhta0c=w1538-h865-no" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="358" src="//3.bp.blogspot.com/yQdPc2i_-pzNczDBZ8sVVXrJaNB9ov-cK7IzpJhta0c=w1538-h865-no" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">These are <a href="http://www.elhiemfigures.com/ourshop/prod_3067091-TAL06-AQ-Shadow-Army-set-1.html" target="_blank">Elhiem</a> figures of al-Qaeda's Shadow Army.
